Are you wondering how much a website in Switzerland will really cost in 2025?

In our blog post, we have analyzed the prices of 36 Swiss web design agencies and give you a detailed overview of the costs and factors that influence the price of a website.

The most important facts in brief

  • According to my analysis of 36 Swiss web agencies, the hourly rates are between CHF 120 and CHF 250.
  • One-pagers are available from CHF 500, simple websites for small companies with up to 10 pages are available from CHF 900, more complex websites, tailored to the company's target group, are available from CHF 7,500 and web platforms are available from CHF 30,000.
  • companies spend between CHF 25 and CHF 250 per month on the maintenance of a simple to more complex website.

My approach to the analysis

Um die Daten für die Studie zu erhalten, habe ich per Google Suche mit dem Keyword “Webagentur Schweiz” die 100 bestplatzierten Webagenturen auf Google analysiert.

In addition, I went through two agency directories and found 61 other agencies.‍ Of the 161 agencies analyzed in total, I was able to derive specific prices from 36 of them.

Most web agencies have not indicated prices, which is due to the fact that the cost of a website depends on many factors (see below).‍

Some agencies have hidden their hourly rates in their terms and conditions and other subpages. I was able to find out the hourly rates using Google search: "site:example-agency.ch CHF" and "site:bespiel-agentur.ch hourly rate"‍

Nevertheless, the question of the cost of a website cannot be answered in general terms, because it is roughly the same as the question: how much does a house cost?

The price of a house also depends on numerous factors such as location, square meters and furnishings and can therefore not be answered in general terms. Nevertheless, similar properties can be compared, such as an apartment with 3.5 rooms or a house with 6 rooms.

The initial situation is similar for a website. There are numerous factors such as:

  • Number of pages (one-pager, 10 pages or 1,000 pages?)
  • Functions (booking tools, calendar integration, newsletter)
  • Interfaces (CRM, ERP, etc.)
  • Content (write it yourself or have it created)
  • Photos and videos (stock photos, professional photo shoot, number of photos)
  • Design (motion design, 3D design, graphic design)
  • CMS (WordPress, Webflow, Framer, TYPO3, etc.),

all of which have a direct influence on the costs of a website.

‍Creating a website in Switzerland has probably never been as affordable as it is in 2025, thanks to new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), which have made the creation of websites and content much more efficient.

Understanding the cost factors of websites

Why is the price range so wide on many websites?

In order to understand why there is such a price range for individual web offers, one must first understand the cost factors of websites. ‍

The main cost factors include the current status of the website, the desired marketing objectives, the functional and interface requirements, as well as the scope of the website and the time horizon by which the project is to be implemented.

In the following, I will take a closer look at the cost influences of these factors.

But before that, the two basic service models of web agencies need to be explained.

Service models of web agencies

Web agencies are similar to SEO agencies. Basically, the services can be divided into two categories. Namely, productized and individual website services.

What is the difference?‍

Standardized services

Standardized services are often the more cost-effective option. These are standardized website templates that cover basic needs.

Standardized web offers contain a defined scope of services:

Here are some examples:

  • Onepager templates
  • Simple website templates

In general, almost all websites can also be created with a template. This is the reason for the wide price range of CHF 900 to CHF 6400 for a simple company website.

For less than CHF 5,000, you will most likely get a template that is customized to your corporate design. ‍

BUT... standardized web offers are not suitable for every company. Why?

The short answer: because standard packages are not tailored to the target group and requirements of the respective company.

Here are some examples from my previous web projects, which services individual web projects can contain:

  • Sports dealer website with a dynamic dealer search of 200 dealers at several locations in Switzerland
  • Online Shop mit über 2’000 Produkten, integration mit ERP, Onlinezahlungen und Buchhaltungssystem
  • Restaurant website, design coordinated with the interior architecture of the restaurant including menu design

Here is the example of the sports retailer with dynamic retailer search.

This type of individual service model is ideal for medium-sized to large companies

Your starting position and goals for a website

Before we can start with a web project, the following points must be clarified:

  1. ‍Currentstatus of your website: What does your website currently look like? What interfaces and functions are there? Has the domain been newly indexed or has it been active for several years? Are there any technical errors in the code or is the website technically flawless?
  2. ‍Marketing goals: What marketing goals are you pursuing with your website? Do you want to be found regionally or nationally? It is important to define clear goals right from the start.
  3. Functions and requirements: Which functions are required? Do you need an online booking function? Should the website be available in several languages? What requirements do you have for the content management system? How many pages do you need? Do you need new pictures and should they be taken in a professional photo shoot?
  4. Time horizon: By when should the project be implemented?
  5. ‍Check internalresources: What internal resources are available for the implementation of the web project? Do you write the texts yourself or do you have someone in your company who writes the texts? There is also communication: is there someone who will take care of the web project as a contact person?

All these factors influence not only the costs, but also the way in which a website is created.

A more in-depth web audit makes it possible to make an initial budget estimate and find a suitable offer (one-pager, simple website, complex website)‍

The general cost factors of a website

The costs of a website are generally incurred in three main areas.‍

These include:

  1. ‍Infrastructure& fixed costs - also known as "backend". These include everything that makes the website function technically, such as server hosting, the domain and the software on which the website is built.
  2. Design and functionality - also called "frontend". These are responsible for the appearance of the website and provide the interactions that visitors carry out through the website.
  3. ‍Marketing - this includes search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine advertising (SEA) as well as other marketing channels so that your website can be found by your potential customers.

Quote for an online website quote calculator What are the infrastructure costs of a website?

Server hosting costs

Hosting is basically the same as rent (compared to a house) that you have to pay to get space on a computer (server) to run your website. With website builders such as Jimdo, Wix or Squarespace, the price for server hosting is already included.

If you use a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, you have to buy your own hosting or the web agency has to do this for you in order to install the software.

Although this costs more, it also offers advantages, as the server can be expanded accordingly if your company expands. You can also benefit from the flexibility that comes with having your own hosting.

This allows your web agency to make specific changes to the server so that your website runs faster.

The prices for web hosting for a company website (with 1 to 20 pages, without database integration and without e-commerce function) are between CHF 150 and 200 per year.

Depending on the scope and requirements of the website, server costs can account for a considerable proportion of the running costs. For example, the costs for an online store (with +1,000 products) range from CHF 1,000 to several CHF 10,000 per year‍

Domain costs

The domain is the address with which a website is found on the Internet. For example, www.beyondweb.ch is the name of our domain. This can be purchased from a domain registry, such as Infomaniak.

The exact costs depend on the respective domain extension, such as ".ch" or ".com". A ".ch" domain costs on average between 10 and 15 CHF, a ".com" domain between 10 and 20 CHF.

Special domain extensions such as ".restaurant", ".app" or ".gmbh" can also be purchased. These are usually more expensive than the standard endings and cost between CHF 30 and CHF 100; some domains can even cost over CHF 1,000.‍

Contracts are usually concluded with registries for one year. Some providers also grant a discount if the domain name is purchased for several years.

Software costs

Nowadays, most websites are no longer programmed from scratch, but are set up using software known as a content management system (CMS)‍

There are various CMS systems, the best known being In 2024, more than 42.7% of all websites in the world ran on WordPress.

WordPress owes its popularity to its open source strategy. Open source means that the program is available to everyone free of charge and the operator is allowed to further develop their website for their own purposes.

Millions of plug-ins and other software extensions have been developed on the basis of WordPress and are constantly being improved. Thanks to this large and active community, WordPress is never in danger of becoming obsolete.

WordPress can also be used to create any type of website. From simple blogs to huge and extensive e-commerce websites can be realized. Some of the best-known companies that use WordPress are Walt Disney, The New York Times, Mercedes Benz and the TV channel SKY.

‍There are no limits to your website!

What does the design and functions of a WordPress website cost?

Once the domain is available, the server hosting is set up and the content management system (CMS) is installed, you can start designing your website.

design

There are several design methods for a new website and therefore also different prices. If you want a website on WordPress, the costs vary depending on whether you use a ready-made website template, a customized template or a completely reprogrammed website.

Each variant has advantages and disadvantages and also differs in terms of cost. If you are setting up a website yourself, you can buy a design template for as little as CHF 60.

However, you then also have to adapt the template to your company's corporate design and often add new elements. Then there is the whole technical implementation and installation of plugins.

Templates can also be designed and tailored specifically to your wishes. If you like a particular template, a web designer or web agency can customize the code. With an average hourly rate of CHF 166 in the Swiss web industry, you can expect to pay between CHF 1,000 and CHF 6,000 for such changes.

Top of the top, however, are the fully customized websites. Such complex, elaborate websites take several hundred hours to develop, depending on the design and functionality. For this reason, you can expect costs starting at CHF 7,500‍

Elementor is available both as a free version and as a premium version from CHF 50 per year.

However, Elementor is not compatible with all templates. It also requires a professional web designer, as complex design changes can only be implemented with programming skills‍.

Functionality

The functionality is probably the most difficult to evaluate in terms of cost. This is because the costs depend heavily on your company and its needs.

There are different types of websites that cover different functionalities. Often several functionalities are mixed on one website.

What's your situation? Do you need an interactive contact form? An online booking tool? A blog? Ultra-fast loading times? A multilingual website? An online store with WooCommerce, for example? Or even everything together?

No problem! All functions can be implemented comparatively inexpensively via so-called plugins in WordPress. This is one of the strengths of WordPress, as over 58,000 plugins have been developed and are now available thanks to open source!

Many of these plugins are free, but some premium plugins are also required. The costs are therefore difficult to estimate and can range from CHF 50 to several CHF 100 per year.

What does it cost to market a professional website?

After creating and launching your website, one last step remains, namely marketing. In order to fully benefit from a new website, your company must also be findable on Google. Otherwise, your website will only exploit a fraction of its potential.‍

Your website needs to be search engine optimized for better findability. However, search engine optimization (SEO) can be costly if done correctly. SEO is suitable for companies with a long-term plan and strategy.

SEO must be worked on regularly, i.e. daily/weekly. Many SEO agencies offer services with a minimum term of 6 months. As Google's algorithm is very slow to classify new websites as "important", it can take several months for SEO results to become visible.

Especially when it comes to SEO, it is important not to fall for empty promises made by agencies. No reputable SEO agency can catapult your website to number 1 in Google searches within a few weeks.

According to our latest statistics on SEO costs, a complete SEO service costs around CHF 1,000 per month. Local SEO starts from CHF 470 per month, SEO audits from CHF 790 and SEO workshops from CHF 750.‍

For SEO to work, you need to regularly create high-quality content and optimize it for SEO. According to a study, it takes around 55 to 70 articles before the effects of higher visitor numbers become apparent.

The prices for SEO services may seem high, but it is still worth optimizing your website for Google. Around 28% of all clicks on Google are for position 1 in the Google ranking, 16% for position 2 and 11% for position 3.‍

Another frequently used marketing method for websites is called pay-per-click (PPC). As with search engine optimization, this strategy increases the visibility of the website on Google.

However, not in organic search, but by placing ads that you can design yourself.

Summary

As it turns out, the cost of a website can vary greatly from company to company. The size, scope, functionality and design requirements, complexity, individual needs and goals of a company are ultimately decisive for the overall costs.

A high-quality website requires time and expertise in various areas (IT, design and marketing).

The prices can also vary depending on the web agency and the effort required to implement the website.
